(Debt-for-Nature Swap)
A debt-for-nature swap takes foreign debt and converts it into financed conservation activities. In Costa Rica, this exchange was made through the Forest Conservation Agreement (FCA) and the Tropical Forest Conservation Law (TFCA) of the United States government. Osa Birds has been given the distinct opportunity again to realize one of many valuable conservation projects for which we are extremely grateful! This fund is allowing us to expand our biological monitoring network and fulfill our mission to create and restore critical habitat for birds!

Project Title: Connecting and strengthening communities in forest restoration and citizen science in the Golfo Dulce Forest Reserve
Goal: Promote habitat restoration for wildlife in the Golfo Dulce Forest Reserve and contribute to the strengthening of the community of San Juan de Sierpe
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE 1: Promote the improvement of habitat for wildlife and biological connectivity in the Golfo Dulce Forest Reserve
- Community leaders and organized groups are being trained in forest restoration topics and an ecological restoration network in ACOSA is being established.
- A new native plant nursery is being constructed and established to support a large part of the forest restoration taking place on state fincas in ACOSA.
- Farms belonging to the state in the Osa Conservation Area (ACOSA) will undergo the initial restoration process.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE 2: Consolidate a community biological monitoring group for birds in San Juan de Sierpe
- Group of community actors are trained in avian monitoring methods and protocols.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE 3: Promote local tourism businesses through the development of the community hiking trail in San Juan de Sierpe
- Community trail suitable for visitation with infrastructure and signage is being created and will be maintained.

Título de Proyecto: Conectando y fortaleciendo comunidades en restauración de bosques y ciencia ciudadana en la Reserva Forestal Golfo Dulce
Objetivo General: Promover la restauración de hábitat para la vida silvestre en la Reserva Forestal Golfo Dulce y contribuir al fortalecimiento de la comunidad de San Juan de Sierpe
OBJETIVO ESPECÍFICO 1: Promover el mejoramiento del hábitat para la vida silvestre y la conectividad biológica en la Reserva Forestal Golfo Dulce
- Líderes comunales y grupos organizados están capacitados en la reforestación, y una red de restauración ecológica en ACOSA esta establecida en San Juan de Sierpe y los alrededores
- Un Vivero de plantas nativas construido y establecido para proveer una gran cantidad de los arboles y plantas nativas que se necesita para la restauración de bosques
- Dos fincas del estado de ACOSA están en proceso de restauración por el nuevo grupo de monitoreo y restauración de San Juan de Sierpe con el apoyo de la comunidad y botánico Reinaldo Aguilar.
OBJETIVO ESPECÍFICO 2: Consolidar un grupo de monitoreo biológico comunitario de aves en San Juan de Sierpe
- Grupo de actores de la comunidad son capacitados en monitoreo biológico de aves
OBJETIVO ESPECÍFICO 3: Impulsar los emprendimientos mediante el desarrollo del sendero comunitario en San Juan de Sierpe
- Sendero comunitario apto para visitación con infraestructura y rotulacion
