Today the Biological Monitoring Group of Rancho Quemado and the Junior Park Guards gathered to restore a degraded watershed along the Riyito River at the bridge entrance to Rancho Quemado. Plants such as Heliconias, Episcias lilacinas, Calateas, Rubeaseas, Estococas and native Costus, amongst others, were planted along the river bank and invasive Kudzu was pulled out to make room for the new vegetation.
Kudzu has become a particular problem in this area and will need constant attention to erradicate it. All the new native species planted are bird friendly and attract a variety of other fauna such as butterflys and other insects.
This activity is part of a much larger effort to restore fragmented and degraded lands in and around Rancho Quemado with native and threatened species of trees and plants. This project is funded by the Primer Canje de Deuda por Naturaleza.

Hoy, el Grupo de Monitoreo Biológico de Rancho Quemado y los Guardaparques Junior se juntaron para restaurar una sección del río Riyito degradada por el puente de la entrada de Rancho Quemado. Se sembró plantas como Heliconias, Episcias lilacinas, Calateas, Rubeaseas, Estococas y Costus nativo, entre otras, a lo largo de la orilla del río y se arrancó el invasivo Kudzu para dejar espacio a la nueva vegetación.
Kudzu se ha convertido en un problema particular en esta área y necesitará atención constante para erradicarlo. Todas las nuevas especies nativas plantadas son amigables con las aves y atraen una variedad de otra fauna, como mariposas y otros insectos.
